I am absolutely in love with our new Church. I love that my FaceBook timeline and Instagram has been covered in pictures of its glory the past few weeks. I love the hype and excitement that is present in the college student body. I love that this awaited moment finally arrived. This Church has stolen my heart.
The first time I walked into the Church I was struck by the fact of how small the Eucharist looked. There are stained glass windows, arches, and magnificent ceilings that can capture one's attention. At first, it may seem that a breathtaking church isn't necessary or worth the hassle. A few of my non-Catholic were confused on the purpose of spending so much time and money on the church. I mean, Our Lord doesn't change even though His home changes, right?
Yet, He deserves it. This Church is fit for a King. Our King.

The Eucharist may look small, but I think that act of humility is part of the point. Everything is pointed to Him. Every arch and dome directs your vision to the altar. He is the reason why have the ability to build the Church, and it is for Him with which we give honor. Millions of dollars are spent to give him a home, and yet we never can repay the debt we owe him.
This Newman Center is a place of refuge on campus. It is a light in the darkness and a symbol of the evangelization that is occurring. It’s here that I can grow in faith with some of my best friends and continue to fall in love with Christ. It is here that I know I will see friends get married. It’s here that I will grieve and work through struggles. I'll try to figure out my life here, I will fail here, and I will be made new here. It’s here that I will become an adult in the faith. It may just look like a building from the outside, but from this inside, it is a home.
If this building brings just one person closer to Christ, then it was all worth it. Souls will find Christ here and lives will change here. I have already seen relationships with Christ begin to strengthen, and I can honestly say that this place has and will continue to affect my life.
So thank you. Thank you Fr. Matya and Fr. Holdren. Thank you Kevin Clark and Jude Werner. Thank you to the men and women who spent hours building the Church. Thank you to the generous souls who donated to this project.
Thank you for this beautiful home away from home.
