Over seven months ago I was procrastinating studying for a Calculus final and received a phone call telling me that I had been accepted to go on a Medical Mission trip to the Philippines. I got really excited, forced myself to calm down, and then started down the journey of fundraising for this upcoming adventure. Now, I have a flight that leaves in 17 hours, an empty backpack on my bed, and an email informing me that my trip is officially paid for. Thanks to long hours working at a trampoline park and so many generous souls, I am allowed the opportunity to be culture shocked and Jesus rocked. I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you.
I’ve been given the chance to rid myself of worldly possessions and technology. I’m trading in my minivan for a 22-hour plane ride. I’m trading in my bedroom for the ground and a mosquito net. I’m trading in my Chemistry textbook for a passport. I’m trading in my iPhone for a journal. I’m trading in Facebook and Instagram for real human faces. Thank you.
I’ve been given the opportunity to go seek out true beauty. I am trading in makeup for Malaria pills. I am trading in air conditioning for bucket showers. I am trading in countless articles of clothing and a washing machine for a backpack and the river. Thank you.
Most of all, I have the amazing opportunity to serve and to trust. I don’t know where I will be sleeping, who I will be helping, what I will be eating, or what stories I will be hearing. I just know that I am going because of your help. Thank you.
Every time that I started to doubt my fundraising efforts, I found I had no need to ever worry; I’ve been more than blessed. God has something amazing planned for me and my 23 fellow missionaries and because of kind and generous souls, I get to go find out what that is. Your yes made my yes possible. Please know that I will be praying for each of you! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
